CVE Announces Newest Team Members

Chagrin Valley Engineering is excited to announce the addition of four new members to our growing staff.

Amy Lyon-Galvin, P.E., MSCE, MPA joins the CVE team in a client and project manager role within our Municipal Engineering practice.

Amy comes to Chagrin Valley Engineering with over 30 years of experience in municipal, water, sanitary, stormwater, and solid waste and recycling projects. After working for 12 years in engineering and consulting, Amy joined the public sector at the Medina County Sanitary Engineer’s Office in 2003. She advanced into the role of Medina County Sanitary Engineer in 2014, serving in that capacity until advancing into the Assistant Medina County Administrator role in 2020. Amy’s experience in municipal engineering and administrative roles will bolster CVE’s engagement with water, sanitary and stormwater projects from our municipalities, Cuyahoga County, and the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District.

Amy has served on NOACA’s Water Quality Subcommittee and as a member and officer of the County Sanitary Engineers Association of Ohio.  She was the co-recipient of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Ohio Buckeye Chapter, Kevin M. Bonzo Solid Waste Innovator Award in 2020, and co- authored an article titled “Biosolids System Improvements Pay for Themselves” published in the Water Environment Federation’s WE&T Magazine April 2019 edition. Amy holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Cleveland State University, a Master in Public Administration from Ohio University, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. 


Tyler Smith, P.E. comes to CVE with 11 years of experience in planning, design, and construction of municipal infrastructure.

In previous roles, Tyler has assumed a variety of responsibilities including, civil design, hydraulic design, construction inspection and administration, shop drawing review, asset management, design reports, SWPPP reports, design drawings, writing technical and front-end specifications, pipeline condition assessments, field geotechnical investigations, subcontract management, utilities coordination and management, project cost estimation, permitting, scheduling, and project management. Tyler has served clients including the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Lake, Mahoning, and Stark counties, and various municipalities, with a focus on wastewater treatment and collection systems projects.

Tyler graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and obtained his Professional Engineer license in 2018.


Shelby Thomas, E.I. joins Chagrin Valley Engineering’s Transportation practice after several years’ experience in roadway design.

Her design experience will be of great benefit to CVE in providing design services for ODOT projects in Districts 3, 4, and 7. Shelby holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus in Transportation, both from Cleveland State University. She is also working as an adjunct instructor at Cleveland State University this semester. Additionally, Shelby serves on the Board of Directors for the Lake Erie Section of the American Society of Highway Engineers and as the Membership Chair for the Northeast Ohio Chapter of WTS.


Audrey Atzel, MES, joins CVE as the newest member of our environmental science staff.

Audrey Atzel, MES

Audrey comes to CVE as a Wetland Scientist to reinforce and expand our capacity for permitting, wetland delineation, and interactions with environmental agencies. She has 2 years of experience in environmental survey, permitting, wetland delineation, and environmental restoration, including managing several varying types of restoration projects. She also has experience in natural resources, working with the National Park Service among others.

Audrey graduated from Cleveland State University in 2020, earning a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Environmental Science. While obtaining her Master’s, Audrey taught courses on Stream Ecology, Wetland Ecology, and Environmental Geology. Additionally, Audrey spent 4 years in the U.S. Coast Guard and is a Wetland Professional in Training. She is certified in QHEI Level 2, HHEI, BHEI, Operational Leadership, and as a Naturalist.
