Revitalizing a Community Treasure
Revitalized ballfields bring new energy and improved playability to the park.
How CVE helped North Olmsted transform its park space into a year-round destination where modern recreation, family fun, and community traditions all come together.
After more than 30 years without significant updates, North Olmsted’s community park has started the transformation through an exciting two-phased revitalization effort, and CVE was proud to partner with the City to make it happen. This project modernized recreational amenities, solved longstanding drainage issues, and created new spaces for neighbors of all ages to gather and enjoy. While the footprint of the park remained the same, its opportunities for recreation and community connection have grown tremendously.
Phase 1 centered on the north side of the park, where longstanding drainage issues had limited the use of athletic fields. The area was regraded for three new baseball fields: two full-sized fields and one smaller field were designed to accommodate younger players. A paved walking path now links the fields to a redesigned parking lot with upgraded lighting and bicycle racks, making the area more accessible and family friendly. At the heart of this new section is a new concession with restrooms, equipment storage, and WiFi connectivity. New waterlines and electrical conduits were installed, including provisions for field lighting. Thoughtful stormwater design was also a key feature of this phase, with a new bioretention area added to offset the impacts of additional paved surfaces. Fresh landscaping, including 45 new trees, and upgraded fencing, helped complete the transformation of the park’s athletic hub.
Phase 2 will expand the vision to the south side of the park and reshape the space into a more versatile destination for recreation and community gathering. The old cluster of three baseball fields was replaced with a single, lighted 300-foot field, opening up room for overflow soccer fields and providing flexibility for seasonal programming. Enhancements also include three tennis courts, six striped pickleball courts, and a spray ground. A wooden amphitheater with a concrete stage now anchors the park as a venue for concerts and community celebrations, while the playground was expanded to include an accessibility-focused play area for children of all abilities.
A rendering of the park highlights new athletic fields, walking paths, pickleball and tennis courts, an amphitheater, and expanded green space for year-round recreation and gathering.
Behind the scenes, infrastructure upgrades made these features possible, from new storm sewers and waterlines to electrical systems supporting amphitheater events and LED lighting on the baseball which can be operated remotely by mobile device. Landscaping enhancements continued with earth mounding and another 45 new trees, while community-focused touches added meaning and tradition. The existing Veteran’s Memorial was carefully preserved and integrated into the new layout, and a 25-foot Norway Spruce was planted as the future centerpiece of an annual holiday tree lighting, cementing the park’s role as a year-round gathering place for the City.
Phase 1 improvements included a redesigned parking lot, upgraded lighting, and a new concession stand equipped with restrooms, storage, and WiFi.
