Civil Engineering Intern/Co-op

CVE seeks a highly motivated Civil Engineering Intern/Co-op to join our diverse team of professionals.

The Civil Engineering Intern will have the opportunity to work on a variety of project tasks and work alongside experienced engineers in the execution of the design, plan development, and inspection of a variety of infrastructure projects. The Intern will also be responsible to assist Project Engineers and Project Managers with design and administrative tasks and accompany the field crew with survey and inspection related tasks.

Requested Degree/Certifications/Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology. Two (2) years of classwork completed is preferred.

  • CAD experience.

  • Special interest in municipal or transportation engineering.

  • Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions.

  • Ethics - Treats people with respect; works with integrity and ethically.

  • Attendance/Punctuality - Consistently arrives at work and on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.

  • Professionalism - Approaches others in a tactful manner; reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments.

  • Focus on teamwork.

  • Valid Driver’s License and insurable driving record.

  • Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Local candidates preferred, no relocation assistance provided.

Job Responsibilities

  • Copy sketches, layouts, and drawings prepared by others on to CAD.

  • Perform field work including pavement, sidewalk, and outfall inspections and assist the Survey Crew in the performance of topographic and utility surveys.

  • Learn proficiency in operation of computer-aided drafting and design input station; assignments of increasing difficulty will be submitted as proficiency is increased.

  • Understand and follow the company's standard CAD procedures for levels, line styles, etc., and standard drawing procedures for sheet layout.

  • Work flexibly with numerous project teams to help in project completion.

  • Maintain neat and orderly work area that will allow access to project information to other team members.

  • Perform periodic on-site inspections to note conditions and determine quantities.
