Entry Level Transportation Engineer (Cleveland or Columbus)

Chagrin Valley Engineering, Ltd. is seeking an enthusiastic Entry-Level Transportation Engineer to join our growing team in Cleveland or Columbus.

This position offers the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers and gain hands-on experience in roadway and multimodal transportation design for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), counties, and municipalities throughout Ohio. You’ll work closely with senior staff to develop technical design skills, strengthen your understanding of transportation engineering principles, and learn how to apply CAD software and design standards to real-world projects. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer eager to learn, grow, and build a long-term career in transportation design.

Requested Degree/Certifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain within one year.

  • 0–3 years of relevant experience in roadway or transportation design.

  • Familiarity with or interest in OpenRoads Designer AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.

  • Strong desire to learn ODOT design standards and procedures.

  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.

  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to ask questions and seek feedback.

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable driving record.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing engineering drawings, design details, and plan sets under the supervision of senior engineers.

  • Support design tasks such as roadway geometry, drainage, maintenance of traffic, and quantity takeoffs.

  • Learn and apply ODOT and local design standards through hands-on project work.

  • Help compile technical data, reports, and exhibits to support project deliverables.

  • Collaborate with teammates and contribute to a positive, learning-focused work environment.
