Environmental Department Manager

CVE seeks a highly motivated full-time Environmental Department Manager to join our diverse team of professionals.

This Environmental Department Manager will be the team lead to coordinate the environmental staff within our Cleveland Office and complete environmental permitting and planning for private, public, and utility agencies across Ohio.

Requested Degree/Certifications/Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Forestry, Wildlife, Fisheries, Natural Resources, Wetland Science, or related field. Master's degree or additional advanced degree is preferred.

  • 15 years of post-degree experience relevant to associated body of work, including wetland delineations and permitting.

  • Possess strong organizational and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft PowerPoint).

  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills are required.

  • Familiarity with a variety of GPS equipment and electronic data collection.

  • Project experience with federal and state wetland and environmental permitting 401 Water Quality Certification and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act within the State of Ohio.

  • Possess a familiarity with the U.S. Endangered Species Act and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

  • Excellent relationships with local, state, and/or federal agencies.

  • Past supervisory experience managing staff and directing work.

  • Ability to professionally interact in the field with clients, regulatory agencies, and staff.

  • Develops technical capabilities of less experienced staff.

  • Positive and team-focused individual with the willingness to complete field work year-round.

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable driving record.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage environmental field and office investigations.

  • Lead in-office staff and coordinate with outside consultants for project delivery.

  • Prepare proposals and maintain client relations.

  • Coordinate and advise engineering staff on permitting and regulation impacts related to infrastructure projects.

  • Operate GPS equipment and coordinate the use of geographic information system (GIS) mapping for permitting and other environmental documents.

  • Assist and develop staff on plant identification, soil characterization, and hydrologic indicators.

  • Manage wetland delineations and environmental assessments per the USACE 1987 Manual and other addendums as needed.

  • Prepare permit applications and field data reports to support permitting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PWS certification or the ability to obtain is preferred or within 6 months of hire.

  • Holds or can obtain within 6 months of hire the following ODOT Prequalification status – Ecological Surveys, Environmental Document Preparation (CE), Stream & Wetland Mitigation, and Waterway Permits

  • Experience completing other biological wildlife surveys.

  • Experience with environmental grant funding sources and writing
