Transportation Engineer (Cleveland or Columbus)
Chagrin Valley Engineering, Ltd. is seeking a motivated Transportation Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to join our growing transportation design team in Cleveland or Columbus.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of roadway and multimodal projects for ODOT, counties, and municipalities throughout Ohio. You’ll collaborate closely with experienced engineers and project managers on project design, plan development, and technical analyses - gaining experience across all phases of transportation projects. This role is ideal for an engineer seeking to expand their technical expertise, take on increasing responsibility, and grow toward project management or advanced technical leadership.
Requested Degree/Certifications/Skills
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering.
Ohio Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred, or ability to obtain within one (1) year.
3–5 years of relevant roadway design experience for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) or local public agencies.
Familiarity with ODOT design standards, including the Location & Design (L&D) Manual and Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM).
Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D required.
Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable driving record.
Job Responsibilities
Support senior engineers and project managers in the design and development of roadway and multimodal transportation projects.
Prepare and edit plans, cross sections, quantities, and cost estimates in accordance with ODOT and local standards.
Assist in performing engineering calculations, plan reviews, and field investigations.
Coordinate with team members, subconsultants, and clients to gather data and resolve design challenges.
Prepare technical reports, design summaries, and exhibits to support project documentation and presentations.
Participate in quality control reviews and implement feedback from senior staff.
Take ownership of assigned tasks and actively contribute to a collaborative, mentorship-focused team culture.
