Transportation Project Engineer (Cleveland or Columbus)
Chagrin Valley Engineering is seeking a highly motivated Transportation Project Engineer with 8+ years of experience to join our growing team in Cleveland or Columbus.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of roadway and multimodal transportation projects across Ohio - from complex ODOT corridor improvements to community-based municipal infrastructure. You’ll collaborate closely with experienced engineers and project managers, mentor junior staff, and continue to deliver high-quality, community-focused engineering solutions. Requested Degree/Certifications/Skills
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering.
Ohio Professional Engineering (PE) License required.
Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in roadway design for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and/or local public agencies.
In-depth knowledge of ODOT design standards, including the Location & Design (L&D) Manual, Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM), and related procedures.
Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD Civil 3D required.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and with clients.
Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent design tasks and deliver high-quality work on schedule and within budget.
Self-motivated, organized, and committed to continuous improvement and mentoring others.
Valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable driving record.
Job Responsibilities
Lead and perform transportation engineering design tasks, including roadway geometry, drainage, maintenance of traffic, cost estimating, and plan production.
Prepare and review construction plans, quantities, cost estimates, and technical specifications in accordance with ODOT and local standards.
Coordinate with clients, subconsultants, utility companies, and review agencies to ensure seamless project delivery.
Prepare technical reports, memos, and presentations that clearly communicate design concepts and findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
Contribute to project scoping, quality control reviews, and proposal development efforts.
Provide technical mentorship to less experienced engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
