Wetland Scientist

CVE seeks a highly motivated full-time Wetland Scientist for our environmental department. 

The Wetland Scientist will work alongside a group of skilled professionals within our Cleveland Office to perform field investigations and prepare reports for environmental permitting for private clients and public agencies across Ohio.

Requested Degree/Certifications/Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental science, Botany, Forestry, Wildlife, Fisheries, Natural Resources, Wetland Science or related field.

  • Has five (5) years of post-degree experience relevant to associated body of work, including wetland delineations, reports, and permitting.

  • Possess strong organizational and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint).

  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills are required. Ability to work independently and on a project team.

  • Capability to effectively manage project tasks.

  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with other team members.

  • Manage, coordinate, and communicate schedule and progress on multiple concurrent tasks.

  • Complete work on time and within budget.

  • Be energetic, self-directed, and success-focused.

  • Familiarity with a variety of GPS equipment and electronic data collection.

  • Project experience with federal (NWP and IWP), state wetland, and environmental permitting including Section 401 Water Quality Certification and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act within the State of Ohio.

  • Project experience with local, state, and/or federal agencies.

  • Positive and team-focused individual with the willingness to complete field work year-round.

  • Valid US Driver License with an acceptable driving record.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform environmental field surveys including data mapping, report preparation, and permit applications/agency coordination.

  • Advise engineering staff on permitting and regulation impacts related to infrastructure projects.

  • Operate GPS equipment and utilize geographic information system (GIS) mapping for permitting and other environmental documents.

  • Be able to identify plant species, soil characterization, and hydrologic indicators.

  • Perform wetland delineations and environmental assessments per the USACE 1987 Manual and other addendums as needed.

  • Prepare permit applications and coordinate with public agencies to obtain approvals.
