Central Ohio Technical Manager

CVE seeks an exceptional and dynamic individual to serve as the Central Ohio Technical Manager and spearhead our expansion efforts. In this pivotal role, the new hire will open a third office to strengthen CVE’s presence in the Columbus geography.

The Central Ohio Technical Manager will be responsible for not only growing CVE’s geographic footprint, but also leading a dedicated team of professionals to acquire new clients. The mission is to cultivate CVE’s presence in Columbus and create a thriving office that mirrors the excellence CVE is known for in Northeast Ohio. Leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of CVE, and the Central Ohio Technical Manager will be the driving force behind CVE’s strategic growth to define and execute plans to expand its influence in the Columbus market. The Technical Manager’s vision will guide CVE as it seeks fresh opportunities and forges lasting client relationships. Requested Degree/Certifications/Skills

  • Possesses a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering. An Ohio Professional Engineer’s registration is required.

  • 12 years of transportation/utility infrastructure construction management, construction inspection, and/or design experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated track record of achieving success in Project Management, especially with ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation), City of Columbus, Franklin County, Delaware County, and personnel management roles.

  • Display exceptional leadership qualities and strong organizational skills necessary for effectively overseeing the Columbus office.

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, along with active listening abilities. Proficiency in delivering clear presentations and facilitating productive meetings is crucial.

  • Possesses solid, mature judgment and consistently exhibits trustworthy behavior to maintain the office’s integrity and reputation.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate an office or department as a business, drive sales, grow revenue, and expand overall.

  • Capable of envisioning the broader organizational picture and setting a clear vision and direction to achieve business goals.

  • Prioritize an intense client focus, foster trusted client relationships, and build a strong professional reputation within the industry in the Columbus region.

  • Emphasize a commitment to continuous self-improvement and the development of the office team, with the ability to mentor and nurture individuals to the next level of leadership.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitors, and manage the department’s operating budget in alignment with the office operating budget and forecast updates.

  • Assign staff to projects, coordinate department activities, and establish priorities.

  • Ensure staff development, mentoring, and training needs are met.

  • Collaborate with other offices for work-sharing opportunities.

  • Support the firm’s strategic plan implementation for project pursuits within the department and office.

  • Assist in developing office-level strategic planning strategies.

  • Facilitate the firm’s contracting process through project delivery, including scope and fee reviews impacting the department.

  • Manage project management activities including scope, schedule, budget, and quality management.

  • Oversee technical discipline tasks, including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation.

  • Coordinate with clients to define work programs and budgets.

  • Maintain client contacts to ensure satisfaction and assist in sales and marketing efforts for office growth.

  • Serve as the primary client contact for projects.

  • Collaborate closely with the Cleveland Office on project pursuits and new business opportunities.

  • Recruit, hire, develop, and retain office staff.

  • Develop plans for staff reporting, performance reviews, and succession.

  • Supervise and mentor teams to achieve project objectives.

  • Provide technical expertise on roadway projects including conceptual engineering and detailed design.

  • Perform investigative analyses in support of design projects.

  • Review and check engineering work for quality and consistency.

  • Set the vision and plan for future opportunities in the growing Columbus Office.

  • Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, professional development, technical excellence, and business success.

  • Coordinate work efforts, review work performed by project teams, and assign priorities and staff to jobs.

  • Supervise and review project scopes and fee quotations.

  • Ensure quality control and assurance in project delivery.
