Construction Inspector
CVE seeks a dynamic and detail-oriented candidate to oversee the successful completion of public infrastructure projects within our Construction Management Services Department within our Cleveland office.
The Construction Inspector will provide construction oversight for individual projects. Project types include public improvements focused on roadways, sewers, drainage, and water distribution.
Requested Degree/Certifications/Skills
2-5 years of transportation/utility infrastructure construction inspection experience preferred.
Thorough knowledge of ODOT Construction & Materials Specifications.
ODOT Project Inspector prequalification, as well as NICET, NETTCP, OAIMA, and ACI certification a plus.
Knowledge of infrastructure construction teams and practices, ability to read construction documents and civil engineering plans, and actively participate in contract processes.
Able to work well under pressure; sensitive to confidential information.
Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with other team members.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and able to use web-based inspection software.
Demonstrated experience with engineering drawings and specifications.
Exercise good judgement and demonstrate ethical behavior.
Be reliable, punctual, and have a positive attitude.
Job Responsibilities
Oversees public infrastructure construction projects ensuring construction work performed will achieve plan and specification intent.
Oversees testing of materials and documents activities to ensure work performed by contractors follows all local, state, and federal specifications.
Documents field activities, including measurements and calculations of quantities.
Willingness to work in varying weather conditions as some work assignments are outdoors.
Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stopping, standing, and walking for long periods of time and ability to navigate over obstacles including the dexterity to safely walk a construction site on a daily basis.
Requires sitting and dexterity to perform work on a PC, tablet, or smartphone.
Report to CVE Construction Engineer or Municipal Engineer.
Must be able to use own vehicle and the ability to travel to active construction project sites. Valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable riving record required.
Must have normal or corrected vision and have the ability to verbally communicate to upper-level management and city officials.
Occasional lifting of 5 to 25 pounds.
Frequent walking is required.
Follow safe work habits including the use of personal protective equipment as required.
