Entry Level Surveyor

CVE seeks a highly motivated full-time Entry Level Surveyor to join our growing survey department.

The Entry Level Surveyor will have the opportunity to work on a variety of field tasks to support the development of municipal, transportation, and surveying designs and deliverables as well as office tasks including creation of boundary surveys, dedication plats, easements, R/W plans, and legal descriptions. The Surveyor will also work alongside a Survey Crew Chief and Office Surveyors and Engineers to perform a wide-range of survey tasks focused on in the documentation of topographic, utility, and property information as well as document preparation.

Requested Degree/Certifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with surveying and mapping course or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying Engineering Technology.

  • Survey Intern status or eligible and commitment to sitting for the Fundamentals of Surveying exam upon graduation.

  • Experience is a plus but not required as training will be provided.

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D familiarity.

  • Ability to work independently and on a project team.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills required.

  • A focus on safe work habits.

  • Availability for occasional limited travel to remote locations on a project team.

  • Punctuality and positive attitude are required.

  • Must be willing to work outdoors throughout the year.

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable driving record.

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in the preparation of R/W plans and legal descriptions in accordance with Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) standards from roadway construction plans.

  • Calculate areas of land parcels and easements using mathematics and computer software.

  • Participate in research of previous survey evidence, including maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.

  • Accompany Survey Crew Chief in the field to provide support in obtaining evidence, measurements, and data collection.

  • Carry and set up survey equipment.

  • Perform work in a safe manner while wearing appropriate gear and maintain awareness of surroundings.
